Victims’ Response to Arrest Orders for War Crimes Suspects

The International Criminal Court Prosecutor issued arrest warrants for six individuals accused of committing war crimes in the city of Tarhuna when it was controlled by the Ninth Brigade, known in Libya as “Al-Kaniyat.”

Proposal Summary After the Ninth Brigade withdrew from Tarhuna in 2020, mass graves were discovered, where individuals who had been arrested and unlawfully executed were buried. The number of victims exceeded 200, and their crimes became public despite fleeing to eastern Libya. Some even escaped the country. The ICC Prosecutor has issued arrest warrants for the leaders of the brigade accused of these crimes.
